After an unexpected and welcome group of sunny days last week, signs of spring have started popping up everywhere. Tulips showed up at the local florist...

Snow and ice began melting off our roof, leaving Pepper completely enthralled by the streams of water which flow into our herb barrels and the boys busy for hours stomping and digging in the slushy muddy lawn...

Regular calls from the hen house announced fresh eggs in need of collection...

The garden catalogs are arriving, full of pictures of lush gardens overflowing with flowers and fruit. Despite my efforts to be realistic about our limited gardening possiblities here in the high desert, I can't help but feel optimistic that this year will work better than last, and that despite all the odds; the dry weather, the burning sun and the ever persistent groundhogs, this year's garden will flourish and produce more abundantly than ever.
